Last Wednesday Kirk and I headed to Door County, Wisconsin for a few days. The trip was all pleasure for myself, but part business for Kirk as he had several half-days of CME (continuing medical education) lectures to attend. While Kirk was in lectures from 8 am to noon on Thursday and Friday I stayed behind in our room - knitting, sipping coffee and enjoying the view of Lake Michigan. I have such a rough life, eh? After Kirk would get out of his lectures we would then drive to and walk around different parts of Door County - including Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, and Sturgeon Bay. In the evenings we dined at such wonderful restaurants as White Gull Inn, Trio, and Sage. However, my favorite meal was breakfast at Cafe Launch on our way home. Kirk had delicious huevos rancheros and I had absolutely wonderful baked oatmeal and multigrain bread. Sounds rather plain, but trust me - it was awesome!
Door County has many shops, art galleries, etc. for tourists to enjoy. However, it shouldn't surprise anyone to hear that my favorite store was a yarn shop. "Spin" in Sturgeon Bay is a knitter's dream come true! It is located in the town's old bank and is very tastefully laid out with a broad array of wonderful books, needles, notions, magazines, and exquisite yarns. The icing on the cake is that the owner, Terry, is very friendly and helpful! I bought several yummy balls of yarn...destined to become hats (another version of the Rose Red, which I'm already working on - and another Ysolda pattern called "Verity"). I'll post photos when I can.
I'm kicking myself because I didn't take my camera - so I missed out on a lot of great photos. The fall colors are absolutely stunning right now in Wisconsin - and this bonehead left her camera at home. Perhaps the next time we go I'll remember my camera!
