You are probably asking yourself - what is the Ravelympics? Well, first I need to explain that there is an internet community of knitters/crocheters/spinners/fiber enthusiasts that I belong to called "Ravelry." If you are at all interested in any of the above mentioned "hobbies," then I highly recommend that you join Ravelry. This wonderful community has been a huge help to my knitting abilities, as well as allowed me to meet many wonderful people (like my good friend Stas).
Anyway, getting back to the Ravelympics. This event occurs at the same time as the Winter Olympics. Every participant sets a goal (one that is supposed to be challenging) and then joins different teams in order to compete for medals. The projects are various sizes - anywhere from mittens to sweaters. Casting on (starting the project) coincides with the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. In order to qualify for medals, the projects must be completed on or before the final competition of the Olympics.
The project that I chose was a lace shawl. In the past, I had completed only one other lace shawl...and that shawl took me over a month to complete. Therefore, I knew that trying to complete a lace shawl within a two week time period would definitely be a challenge for me. I decided to join "Team Wrap Around Ewe" because it was a group totally focused on shawls (and because my buddy Stas was joining it as well!). The events that I entered were "Short Track Shawls" and "Lace Luge."
Well, I am happy to report that not only did I get my shawl completed, but I completed it within a week (definitely a record for me). Also, my shawl won medals in both of the events that I entered. Woo hoo!
