2009 Spud Crop

After hearing about my pal Stasia's failed potato crop, I was a wee bit apprehensive when I headed out to dig up my taters yesterday. However, my worries were totally unfounded...as you can see in the following photos:
The motherload
Aren't these blue potatoes gorgeous?
Evan thinks they look like dinosaur eggs.

Check out the size of that white one on top!

This is my first try at growing my own potatoes. I tried two methods: soft sided potato bins (that I ordered here) and an above ground method where you just plop the seed potato down on the ground, water it ONE time thoroughly, and keep mounding on straw as the potato plant grows. Both methods seemed to work equally well. I only found one rotten potato. The rotten potato had somehow worked its way under a stone to grow...so I'm sure that was the reason it didn't do too well.
The next step is to cook these babies up and see how they taste. I'm thinking some nice homemade potato chips...!
